It is very much so the Pathfinder operation, which you'll hear about in other Illustrator courses you take here at Lynda. It's the Pathfinder operation on a brush, and that's a very powerful thing. So first things first. Let's show you how this thing works. In order to combine objects together, all you have to do is take an object. They have to be selected. And then just draw across those objects. See how I've drawn across these three right here? Once I release my mouse, those three objects become one single object. If I want to remove something from an object, I come up here, for instance, and hold down the Option key. See how the plus sign changes, plus to minus. Plus to minus. That means you're about to subtract something. So let's go here. And I can subtract just like that. Subtract. Subtract. You get the idea. Now let's undo all of that, get back to the original. Now all I want to do is combine these into one single shape. The easiest way to do that is to come outside, hold down the Shift key, and click and drag a box around all of them. Once I have all of them selected, they're all highlighted, all I have to do is let go of the mouse and then let go of the keyboard. That's going to create a very clean, single shape for my logo. You can see it's very simple. There's not a whole lot of anchor points, no unnecessary pads or anything like that, which is oftentimes what you get when you try to draw with the mouse using the pencil tool or the brush tool inside of Illustrator. So, even if you don't know how to draw, it's still very much possible to create complex artwork without using any sort of drawing or painting tool.
